The France Excellence summer school 2019 dedicated to "Green & Sustainable Chemistry " will be held from July 2 to July 20 at the University of Strasbourg in the Chemistry Department (Faculty of Chemistry), located within Strasbourg, nearby the Old Medieval City (see http://www.en.strasbourg.eu/en/discover-the-city/) and nearby the European Institutions (see http://www.en.strasbourg.eu/en/europe-international/european-capital/).
Created in the XVIth century (1538 and 1621), the University of Strasbourg, has hosted numerous prestigious professors and researchers, especially in Chemistry. L Pasteur, A. Baeyer, E. Fischer, H. Staudinger are among the most famous, all being awarded Nobel prices in Chemistry. The Chemistry Department is still hosting 3 active Nobel prices (JM Lehn, M Karplus, JP Sauvage)
1 - FACILITIES
ARRIVAL IN FRANCE
Participants will be welcomed at the train station in Strasbourg on Sunday June 30 2019, after a transfer from the Charles de Gaulle airport (Paris) to the high-speed train (TGV), the latter being in the airport ground level.
Note that the TGV ticket could be included in your travel ticket, and if you choose Air France airline, your luggage(s) will be handle from the airport up to Strasbourg.
Courses will start on Tuesday 2nd July 2019.
At their arrival at the Strasbourg train station, participants will be conducted to their accommodation.
The school will provide accommodation for all the participants in a residence offering single studios with private bathroom. The residence is located within walking distances (15-20 mn) from the Campus, as well as from the Old Medieval City
All meals are included in the programme (breakfast, lunches and dinners) and will mostly take place in university restaurants. Buffets will also be organized in other places (restaurants, castles…) for special events.
Due to the convenient and human size of Strasbourg city and due to the nice location of the campus, most transportation could easily be performed through walk.
Nevertheless, Tram and bus (downtown public transportation) tickets will be provided to the participants

3- CULTURAL SYLLABUS
Specific classes will be provided every morning, except on Saturday and Sunday, representing around 18 to 20 h. These classes will be also located in the same Campus.
- Visit of the Middle Age city and of the XIXth city (Neue Stadt), twice classified as world heritage by UNESCO:
- Visit of a Middle Age castle in the neighboring mountains (Vosges)
- Visit of the Cathedral and tour on its top and roofs; show with the historical astronomic clock
- Boat tour on the canals within Strasbourg
- Visits of traditional museums (see https://en.musees.strasbourg.eu/).
