Sciences Po Lille is offering a summer school on EU/International Affairs. This pre-doctoral program will take place from June 25th to July 17th 2018 in Lille.

Institution Presentation:


Sciences Po Lille is a high selective, public and international institute, which creates the future influencers of social, economic and political powers, in France, in Europe and worldwide. We have chosen to have a “human sized” school of 2000 students. All the students at Sciences Po Lille, live in Lille, in the heart of a dynamic metropolis filled with students which is conveniently close to the major European capitals (London, Paris and Brussels).


Sciences Po Lille Summer School consists of intensive short-term program with different courses such as Law, Economics and Politics.

The 2018 Summer School proposes a programme around 2 tracks:

-          International - EU Affairs

-          French Language & Society

Students will have the opportunity to divide their time in Lille between modules which focus on International and European affairs, including issues such as the crisis in Climate change, European identity and values.  

The courses in French language aims to enhance and perfect their language skills as well provide some understanding of the contemporary aspects of French society.

Date of welcome meeting in Lille: Monday 25th June 2018

First day of courses: Tuesday 26th June 2018


The COPAIN association will welcome you at Paris Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport on Friday 22nd June at 12.00, and then drive you by bus to your hall of residence. Florian VIRLY & YAN Zheng will be present on the spot and during the trip to answer your first questions.

You will be staying in a 18 square meter furnished room, with private bathroom and unlimited wifi access.


Your breakfasts, lunches and dinners have been booked throughout your stay : these will be delivered to your hall of residence, served in university canteen, or in town.


Local transportation:

On your first day in Lille you will be given a TRANSPOLE travel card. This card will enable you to have unlimited travel around Lille European Metropole area by underground, bus, tram and train network.



Last day of courses: Tuesday 17th July 2018

Return to Paris: Wednesday 18th July 2018

French courses (14x 1,5h soit 21h): This module aims to develop students' ability to demonstrate some understanding of the French language, as well as speak, read and write French with relative proficiency. Professors will help students to develop communication skills through regular class discussions, one-on-one conversations, role plays and oral presentations with classmates. The aim of this course is that students will gain fluency in French while increasing their knowledge of France.

The course focuses on:

-          expanding your vocabulary

-          increasing basic conversational skills

-          improving pronunciation

-          increasing knowledge of grammar

-          improving listening skills

-          developing writing skills

Contemporary French society (8x1,5h soit 12h): This seminar intends to present the main aspects of the French society, compared with other European industrialized countries. Indeed, the main objective is to analyze how the French society functions, taking into account some of the main historical steps which established the basis of the welfare system, of the labor market, the role of women in society, the system of education, etc. Comparisons with other countries will be encouraged during all the seminar and students will be also encouraged to present the functioning of their own country. At the end of the seminar, students have to be able to understand some of the important issues in France and what is mainly at stake in contemporary debates.

Cultural site visits of exceptional historic & socio-economic interest as well as a local festive event will be included in the programme. Midway between Paris & Brussels, the Hauts-de-France region is typified by its agrarian economy, its ancient trade fairs tradition, its former textile & mine industries steeped in the Catholic values of its captains, its maritime & Flemish borders, its vivid memory of wounds inflicted by two world wars, its cultural renewal.

Sciences Po Lille Summer School « EU/International Affairs »

The total number of places is limited to 20.


The price does not include the trip from China to Paris.  

Accommodation, meals and local transportation are all included.

The summer school will deliver ECTS and a certificate.

The summer school has been designed for Chinese students and is open to other international students.

The French Embassy reserves a limited number of grants to students with an exceptional academic background. Grants cover the tuition fees but do not cover the trip from China to Paris.
