Program

In a nutschell …

This 3 weeks-program is designed to provide new knowledge and insights in sustainable development. During the session, students learn in a variety of ways with an interdisciplinary program that offers:

french classes every morning

classes that cover the main challenges in sustainable development

guest lectures on certain aspects of research areas in the field

visits of reseach laboratories, private companies as well as museum and vineyards.

Program

In the face of the challenge posed by climate change, environmental protection is vital for the development of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region's appeal and competitiveness. All actors on the territory have been working in several directions: increase high-speed Internet connections; cut regional greenhouse gas emissions; increase the contribution of renewable energy sources to energy production; improve the quality of water. Bordeaux metropole has also an experience in democracy and civic participation and is seeking input from residents of the region through the Council of Sustainable Development of Bordeaux Metropole. Since 2010, the UNESCO chair "Education, training and research for sustainable development" is based in Bordeaux-INP and hosted by ENSEGID.

The program of the Summer school is organized by Bordeaux INP. Instructors and guest lecturers are scientific experts as well as professors/associate professors. They come from the different graduate schools from Bordeaux INP (ENSCBP, ENSEIRB-MATMECA, ENSC, ENSEGID, ENSGTI, IsaBTP), and from our partner Bordeaux Sciences Agro. We acknowledge the valuable contribution of experts from Bordeaux Metropole who will show how the city has implemented a series of initiatives to become greener and provide a better quality of life for all its citizens.

Training in sustainable development and societal responsibility has been developed for a long time in our engineering schools. Georessources management (water circular economy) and Energy transition (eco-construction / eco-processes) are two of our four societal issues chosen for our research policy.

French Classes every morning /2 first weeks

Themes to be explored (conferences)

Bordeaux, a city renowned for many good things: listed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, described as «an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble”, classified as «City of Art and History” and last but not least, the wine capital of the world! Home to over 360 historical monuments, Bordeaux is capital of the region Aquitaine in south-west France, where over 10,000 wine-producing châteaux are situated. It is the largest region in France and thanks to its advantageous location and mild climate, Aquitaine is renowned for its high quality of life. Less than an hour away lie the sunny beaches of the Atlantic coast and the rolling landscapes of the region’s famous vineyards. Further south the historic and cultural treasures of the Pays Basque and the Pyrenees may be discovered. Alongside the program we also offer exciting social activities which will show you the highlights of student life in Bordeaux. By its exceptional geography, historic heritage and the worldwide reputation of its wines, our city embodies a timeless way of life. The city was recently elected best European destination. We hope you will enjoy the city, its emblematic buildings as well as our brand new Bordeaux-based wine museum and cultural center known as La Cité du Vin which recently opened its doors.
