Smart Cities & Engineering for Sustainable Architecture

 
The France Excellence 2018 Summer School "Smart Cities & Engineering for Sustainable Architecture " will take place from June 30th to July 21st, 2018, 10 days in Paris (Cachan) and 10 days in Troyes.

EPF-ESTP Paris Summer Program on Smart Cities & Engineering for Sustainable Architecture offers an in-depth study on topics such as engineering for eco-cities and smart cities, green issues, city planning and architecture for the future.

The program is mainly designed for Master and Post Master students with a major in Engineering or Architecture.

The program is composed of 2 modules :

The module in Paris (ESTP Campus in Cachan) focuses on topics such as eco-cities and smart cities, city planning, spatial planning and economic issues for sustainable development.

The module in Troyes (EPF Campus in Troyes) focuses on practical application using innovative teaching methods and modern technology.       

On both campuses, students will have some exposure with Researchers and PhD students who may be researching on related topics.

Students will be evaluated at the end of the program and will receive 6 ECTS credits upon successful completion of the modules.

 

 

EPF Graduate School of Engineering 

EPF Graduate School of Engineering is a French Grande Ecole Located at Sceaux, South of Paris, with two other campuses in Troyes in Champagne Region and Montpellier, South of France. 

The five-year long curriculum leading to the Engineering Degree (Titre de l’Ingénieur) is fully recognised by the French Government and combines scientific, technical and technological modules. 

The School has strong reputation nationally and internationally in teaching and Research and trains generalist engineers with expertise fields in various academic disciplines including Water, Energy, Durable Environment and Sustainable Housing.

 

ESTP Graduate School of Engineering 

The ‘’Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics, du Bâtiment et de l’Industrie’’ (ESTP Paris) was founded in 1891 and officially recognized by the State in 1921.

In a little over a century, ESTP Paris has trained more than 45 000 engineers and has become the French institution that trains the biggest student flow for the civil and building engineering and planning industries.

ESTP Paris is renowned for the quality of its education and close relations with leading multinational groups (Vinci, Eiffage, Colas, Bouygues etc.)

Arrival in France :

 

Welcome at the airport on Saturday June 30th.

 

Arrivals and check-ins on ESTP campus in Cachan may be arranged no earlier than Saturday June 30th, or on Monday July 2nd.

 

(Unfortunately, check-ins won’t be available on Sunday July 1st.)

 

 

Accomodation

 

You will be hosted in or near ESTP student residence in Cachan. Rooms are private but showers and toilets are shared (Male and Female are separate).

Meals

 

All  meals are included.

 

Transports

 

Transfers from Cachan to Troyes will take place on July 11th, in the morning.

(Wednesday July 11th through Saturday July 21st, classes will be held and students will be on EPF campus in Troyes.)

 

 

Back to China

Your return to China will be Sunday, July 21st, 2018 (transfer to the airport from the accommodation in the morning) from Paris Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport.

 

 

SCIENTIFIC SYLLABUS

 

This summer school is a joint EPF and ESTP program focusing on sustainability through environment friendly projects and smart cities through innovative approaches in buildings and city planning.

 

On the one hand, the impacts of climate change related to human activities are increasing. Financial volatility and issues regarding resources as well as energy requirements are redefining international relations and conflicts mapping. On the other hand, significant progress in building materials, energy sources and networks, information technologies related to buildings and infrastructures leads to the emergence of new uses.

 

These new challenges and requirements make the building industry and cities stakeholders to re-think about their approaches, to redefine their core professions and to combine the following critical inputs:

 

-          Political and governance (resolutions of the recent Climate Change Conferences)

-          Regulatory (national labels and international standards dedicated to low carbon emission and high energy performance buildings)

-          Technical (Engineers are challenged to do more with less)

-          Social (innovation is a matter of technology and moreover of uses).

 

This program aims to give an overview of the new challenges that Engineers, Architects and Urban Planners are dealing with. The target is achievable by connecting them to academics, professionals and local authority actors in order to stimulate their creativity through dedicated workshops.

 

Research

 

Meetings with researchers and PhD students will be organized throughout the three weeks (up to 10 hours).

July 5th, Visit of the museum “Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine”

July 12th, Visit of Troyes medieval city center

July 18th, Visit of a local museum.

July 20th, Visit of a Champaign Vineyard in the Champagne-Ardennes region.

The price does not include the trip from China to Paris.  

Accommodation, meals and local transportation are all included.

The summer school has been designed for Chinese students and is open to other international students.
